The Executive Program is a seven-month course which includes ten days in residence at two of the sponsoring institutions. The program is tailored to meet the needs of athletic administrators in mid-to top-level management positions who are, or aspire to be athletic directors, executive directors or general managers in collegiate, amateur or professional sports.
Tuition for the entire program is $3,125 The price includes all instruction and materials, local ground transpiration and most meals. Lodging is set up through SMI with favorable hotel rates.
The 2010 - 2011 program will begin on Sunday June 13, 2010 with a seven day session on the University of Notre Dame Campus (The University of North Carolina will host the summer session in 2011 and the University of Michigan will host the summer session in 2012). The Institute will assign each student a six-month project in conjunction with his/her employer. Throughout the next half year, each student will work in close contact with an appropriate faculty advisor. A second in residence session will take place January 20 - 22, 2011 on the University of Georgia Campus. (The University of Southern California will host the winter session in 2012 and the University of Texas will host the winter session in 2013). Projects will be presented and reviewed, and students will take part in a formal certification ceremony.
The curriculum will cover a host of key areas for the athletic administrator including management strategy, legal and ethical behavior, marketing, media relations and management of financial, physical and human resources. Each component will be team-taught by a business school faculty member and a noted practitioner from the field of sports administration. The Institute has recruited a distinguished Board of Visitors who will actively participate in the program.
